About Us
Our business began with two central ideas: new choices for consumers in New York State and a level of personal service to retail and restaurant customers not previously seen in the area. In the world of wine we have also come to see that independent distribution companies such as BDL play a vital role in bringing handcrafted, small-production wines to market in areas outside their home regions.
Often lost in the world of marketing brand warfare are the basic principles that would guide a wine buyer to a superior product. In the same price category, a small-production wine is often made from hand-picked estate fruit while "brand name" wine is made from variable-quality grapes purchased from numerous sources. The close attention to detail and intimate connection to the wine at all stages of production which are the hallmarks of small-production, artisan wines are missing from the mass-produced products heavily promoted to the consumer.
There are hundreds of great small wineries in California and New York alone, and thousands more worldwide. Unfortunately most consumers will never have a chance to try their wonderful wines because their production is not large enough to come to the attention of the huge distribution companies that dominate the industry in sales of both wines and spirits.
As a small, family-owned distributorship whose only focus is wine, we have a unique opportunity to reach wine drinkers and bring them the individual stories that make our portfolio unique. Our goal at BDL Wines is simple: to open up more opportunities for consumers and small wineries to connect.
