Nestled among the majestic coastal redwoods of the Mayacamas Mountains, the steeply terraced, mountainside vineyard yields small amounts of richly flavored Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes. From this and other select cool-climate vineyards throughout Sonoma County winemaker Betsy Spann crafts European-style blended wines, strongly influenced by Bordeaux, the Rhone Valley and Tuscany. 2006 Chardonnay-Viognier Sonoma County Aroma and taste are pure Viognier with Chardonnay playing a supporting role. Voluptuous Viognier aromas and flavors of dried apricots and peaches with Chardonnay adding crisp acidity for a well-balanced, food-friendly blend. Barrel fermented and aged for six months in older French oak. 59% Chardonnay, 41% Viognier. 89 points, International Wine Review 4 stars, Ron Wiegand, Master of Wine, Restaurant Wine Magazine Gold Medal, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition 2005 Mo Zin, Sonoma County Zinfandel grapes from several old-vine vineyards in the Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys create a marvelous base of blackberry flavors, with Mourvédre adding bursts of raspberry and a palate-coating, meaty/beefy taste. Petite Sirah adds a touch of peppery spice, while Carignan and Syrah enhance the aromas. Aged for 14 months in French, Hungarian, and American oak. 88 points, International Wine Review 4 stars, Ron Wiegand, Master of Wine, Restaurant Wine Magazine | TOP | |
